The name Abra is a play with words coming from the famous word “abrakadabra” (Swedish spelling). It suits an automation company as it is often considered as magic when the intended function works fluently and autonomously.

The company was first established by Jonas Hedlöf in 2017 under the name Abrakadabra. It started out as a one man army but has since grown. In 2021 Abrakadabra became Abra Automation Ltd and in 2024 Abra grew further with a Swedish branch.
